Support Our Students (SOS)
Twelve local churches work together to provide a great start for students in and around Watertown.Throughout the summer, we collect school supplies based on the needs of public and private schools in the area. In 2024, we achieved a record goal of distributing 500 student backpacks with a range of supplies from backpacks to calculators, folders, paper and more. Registration begins late in July and distribution happens over two days in mid-August at St. Henry’s parking lot and gymnasium.
Summer Sandwiches in the Park
Each summer, four churches host free lunches. SCMG saw the need for kids to be fed outside of school and Summer Sandwiches began out of that need. Churches have changed over time, but the mission remains, free lunch for anyone who comes by! Lunches are served Tuesday and Thursdays at Clark Park, Wednesdays at Riverside Park and Ebenezer hosts Fridays at Timothy Johnson Park. The program runs from mid-June through August and includes a free bagged lunch and a free book.
Weekend Food to Go and Grow
Every day, qualifying children receive free lunch through the school and government funding. But what happens on the weekend? Children (and their families) may be hungry throughout the weekend as they wait for Monday to come around. This program aims to assist families who are food insecure for the weekend. Every Friday, children receive a large bag of food filled with items to make several meals over the weekend. The 12 churches each provide an item for the bag, including fresh bread and protein. Every Thursday, volunteers from the churches gather to pack the bags that get distributed through the school systems. Over the years, this program has served thousands of bags to many families connected to the public and private school systems. We know that what one can do well, so many can do so much more and we are so grateful to partner with other faith communities to make sure kids and their families are being fed.
Ministries
Ebenezer Kids
Christmas parties, corn mazes, movies, silly quests and connecting time are all part of the fun in Ebenezer kids. Every other month we offer a special event geared toward kids (and sometimes their families too). We have some fun new activities this year including a table at the Bentzin Boo Bash for downtown Halloween. Check the church calendar for more events as we look to give our youth the chance to explore, grow, ask questions and have fun.
Moravian Women
Join the women of Ebenezer Moravian Church event first Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. for fellowship and book study. Beginning the gathering with a meal, prayers and catching up, we seek to connect on issues relating to identifying females in our congregation and beyond. We enjoy conversation about topics related to social justice, equality, equity and more. The books are timely and insightful as we understand the challenges of life in the modern world. Come and find a safe space to talk, listen, seek and explore.
Among Friends
Who doesn’t like to be “among friends?” This is precisely why this group is so aptly named. Every other month, Among Friends hosts activities including game nights to encourage community, fellowship and fun. Each night, one game is taught and everyone enjoys snacks and drinks as they compete and have fun. Check the calendar for dates, times and upcoming games!
Christian Education Fellowship (CEF)
The CEF Committee meets monthly to plan the community life of the church. CEF oversees youth events, congregational activities, fundraisers, ministries and missions. This committee focuses on providing connecting opportunities to every member, visitor and friend. They are always imagining new ideas, make time to connect with members who are in college and work toward acknowledging the importance of everyone as a child of God. CEF works hard and invites others to be part of their committee, events, planning team and more! We also appreciate ideas, insights, feedback and new ways to be together with Christ.
Activity Groups – A, B, C
Church is not the building, but the people. It takes the people to run a church. Every member is part of an activity group. For three months at a time, the activity group is “on” to help with the life of the church. This includes setting up for holidays, helping with funerals, weddings and rental groups and more. Every member is part of the body of Christ and every member has responsibility in faith and in church. We are grateful for the service of our activity groups and their leaders that keep the church healthy, functioning and serving.
Noisy Offering
What do you do with your loose change? On the third Sunday of each month, Ebenezer collects a loose change offering designated to a special ministry. Chosen by the Board of Elders, for three months we collect funds and then send a check to a ministry or mission that needs support. Past recipients include the Watertown and Jefferson Humane Societies, Helping Hands Fund, PEP, SCMG, Camp Scholarships and more. We love to make a joyful noise unto the Lord and share the wealth!
Book Club
Interested in a good book? Want to enjoy dinner and talk about a best-seller? About every six weeks, the Ebenezer Book Club gathers at a variety of local restaurants to chat about the book that was chosen to read. Books range from mystery to historical fiction to romance novels, all titles considered! Check the calendar for the next book club outing and the book. Even if you don’t get a chance to read the book, food and conversation are good for the soul.
Adopt a Family – Jefferson Neighbors!
In December, Ebenezer “adopts” local families and provides them gifts and food for Christmas. By partnering with Jefferson Neighbors, we are able to sponsor families in need. On a Saturday in December, Ebenezer will gather in fellowship hall to be given the information on families with requests for items needed. With carpools, we descend upon a local store to purchase items listed with funds collected from our church. We have been able to sponsor over 100 families since we began with this program and will for years to come. After shopping, we head back to fellowship hall for lunch and wrapping. The following Saturday, we gather once again to load up cars with presents and food and deliver the gifts to families in our area. We are so blessed to be able to sponsor families and help them have a great holiday with food and more!
