SOS!!!
Watertown schools are gearing up for a school supply demand in August. To help, the Shared Community Missions Group is planning our annual SOS (support our schools) by collecting school supplies and offering a FREE distribution. See below for the list of school supplies. A box is available in the narthex. Our hope is to collect enough supplies so that any family in need has supplies for school. Leftover supplies are given to various schools as resources for students throughout the school year.

School supply sales come and go, so keep the list handy to grab some while you shop.

SHARED COMMUNITY MISSION GROUP
The Shared Community Mission Group is an ecumenical group of lay and clergy volunteers who represent ten different churches in Watertown. They believe they can accomplish more together by combining the blessings of volunteers, talents and money than any one church can do alone.

This community-based volunteer group has focused our collective efforts on two main projects that provide assistance to low income families free of Charge: “SOS: Support Our Students” and “Weekend Food to Go and Grow” and "Summer Sandwiches in the Park".

Weekend Food to Go and Grow
This program provides a weekly duffel bag of nutritious food for hungry kindergarten children and their families over the weekend when free school breakfasts and lunches are not available. Each bag includes: canned fruit, canned vegetables, entrée item, quality protein, condensed soup or pasta, breakfast foods, fresh fruit or vegetables, a coupon for a gallon of milk, bread or crackers twice a month. Special holiday meals and occasional treats are also provided.

This program started with a pilot program at Douglas Elementary School in 2012. Over the years it has expanded to include all Watertown Public Schools. Families from Good Shepherd Lutheran School and Watertown Catholic Schools are also invited to participate. We are most grateful to our partner, the Watertown Unified School District, for providing food storage and bag packing space as well as assistance with bag distribution.

SUMMER SANDWICHES IN THE PARK
Come out and join us for lunch every Friday this summer. You can help us pack at church starting at 10am or meet us at Timothy Johnson Park (1115 Oak St) to serve or enjoy lunch at the park, served 11:30-12:30.

This is a community event, we want to build community, gather in the neighborhood and enjoy meeting new faces. We would love for church members to have lunch with us and enjoy some fresh air and friendly conversation.

This program runs through the last week of August, so there is plenty of time and plenty of food. Please watch the Sunday bulletin for opportunities to donate food and monetary gifts are always welcome.
